Sierra Foothills Amber Marsanne 2014

Sierra Foothills Amber Marsanne 2014

This wine is the sibling to the Marsanne we released last year, the sibling who wanted to be different and took a bit more time to get things figured out. It is a white wine made with skin contact like a red, and it has turned into a luscious wine perfect to pair with your holiday feasts…or any night this season!

Grown at 3000 ft outside of Placerville, this high altitude Marsanne is the perfect winter white.  Rich and round, yet totally dry it shows aromas of almond and citrus blossom.

The night before harvest, we camped in the vineyard under bright mountain stars.  We woke at dawn and began harvesting with the vineyard crew.  We didn't sleep until we had hauled our cargo back to Mendocino and destemmed the fruit into a one ton fermenter.

The juice began fermenting naturally with the skins, extracting flavor and color. After twelve days on the skins, we pressed, settled and gravity racked to neutral French oak barrels to finish fermentation. After 10 months, we bottled using gravity, unfined and unfiltered.
